Ingredients

  • 1 28-ounce canned tomato sauce (if you like your sauce chunky, use crushed tomatoes instead)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

  • Add in the remaining ingredients, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, salt, pepper. (see note below for additional options, if using add them as well)
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, and let simmer with the lid slightly ajar for 20-40 minutes. Serve with your favorite pasta

Notes

VARIATIONS:
Celery:  Add in one stalk of celery with the sauce, cut in half, removed once sauce has cooked
Carrot:  Add in one medium carrot, with the sauce.   (Cut into chunks, left whole or grated).... You can either leave it in or remove once sauce has cooked.  If you are going to remove it you can save time by just cutting the carrot in half.
Meatballs:  Add in your favorite meatballs, cooked.
Ground Beef:  Add in cooked ground beef, drained and seasoned.
