Brioche French Toast Recipe

French Toast

This perfect French toast recipe is made with brioche or challah bread. It is absolutely ideal for a nice quiet breakfast on the weekend or brunch with company! Unbelievably easy to make, and a real winner in our family. Simple and elegant.....

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8-10 slices brioche bread
  • maple syrup warmed or at room temp
  • 1/2+ teaspoons cinnamon
  • oil or butter, for frying

Instructions

  • Whisk the eggs in a shallow dish along with the milk, vanilla and cinnamon (if using).
  • Pre-heat your skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add a little butter or oil to the pan, wipe clean with a paper towel. Meanwhile, place one slice of brioche into the egg mixture and turn to coat both sides. Add to the hot pan. Dip only the number of bread slices that will comfortably fit in the skillet.
  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and cook another 3 minutes on the other side.
  • Transfer to a platter and keep warm. Wipe off the skillet and repeat the process with the remainder of the slices of brioche and egg mixture, until finished.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite syrup and/or fresh berries. Enjoy!

Notes

Variations:

1) Add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard. To keep the cinnamon from clumping up in the egg mixture, take the cinnamon and mix it with a little bit of milk to form a paste before adding it in.
2) Use your favorite flavored coffee creamer in place of the milk.
3) My favorite way to serve French toast is with warmed maple syrup but there are other flavors of syrup available, like blueberry or strawberry that go well with fresh berries. Or simply dust with confectioners sugar.
