Classic Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwiches are good any day of the week! BLT’s are so easy to make that a recipe is not really needed. Here are few tips that will help make a better sandwich.
Tips for a better bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich:
Toast the Bread: Toast just one side of the bread. Do this by spreading 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise or butter, on one side of each piece of bread. Place the bread with mayonnaise side down into a large medium-hot skillet. Grill until nicely browned (about 1 minute). Remove and let the bread cool with browned side facing up.
Tomatoes: Slice tomatoes about 1/4-inch thick and season with salt and pepper. Vine ripe beefsteak or heirloom tomatoes work well for BLT’s. If the tomatoes are really juicy tomatoes, let them drain on a paper towel for a couple minutes. This will help absorb the excess moisture.
Bacon: Standard cut bacon works the best for BLT’s. Thick cut bacon will make the sandwich too chewy. Fry the bacon until crispy, and the bacon appears evenly brown in color. Try our air fryer bacon recipe, it really helps make these bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwiches super easy to make. Plus air fryer clean up is fast.
Lettuce: Romaine or Iceberg work well.
Bread: A good quality sandwich bread works best for BLT’s and makes the sandwich nice and tender, not chewy. No real need to use anything fancy like sour dough, unless that’s what you prefer.
Layering: Any order works, it is just a personal preference, as is adding extras to your BLT sandwich.
BLT’s make a terrific sandwich just as. Extra can be added if you like, try avocado, sriracha, cheese or for brunch, add a fried egg.
